Shannon Finnerty
Shannon is a master's student in Natural Resources with an emphasis on wildlife at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (UWSP). Her work focuses on assessing health indicators of wood ducks in central Wisconsin as well as evaluating possible indicators of organophosphate pesticide exposure in wood duck broods at Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. Shannon is also a Teaching Assistant for NRES 151: Ecological Basis for Natural Resources Management. Prior to studying at UWSP Shannon graduated from the University of Florida with her bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. After graduating she worked at a variety of seasonal jobs in the Southeast, including the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge and with the Audubon Society in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Through these jobs Shannon developed her fascination with birds of all kinds. Outside of classes and research Shannon enjoys exploring Wisconsin's trails through the changing seasons.
Undergraduate Students
Jeffrey Edwards (co-advised with Dr. Ben Sedinger)
Jeffrey is a senior wildlife ecology and management student at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point (UWSP). He wears many hats here at UWSP where he served the UWSP Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) collegiate chapter for two years and was nationally recognized for his leadership as recipient of the Rachel L. Carson Emerging Leaders Award. Additionally, Jeffrey is a co-leader on three separate UWSP The Wildlife Society (TWS) research projects: White-tailed deer, Woodcock, and the Adopt-a-Wildlife Area (AWA) project. Last summer, he was seeking to initiate independent research that focused on the uses of ArcGIS Pro and Program R which resulted in a collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) research division. Jeffrey is investigating resource selection and nest survival of Blue-winged Teal (BWTE) in southeast Wisconsin with plans of presenting his research at the Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference, WI Chapter of TWS meeting, and the College of Natural Resources (CNR) Undergraduate Research Symposium. When not working on school-related projects, you can find Jeffrey exploring Wisconsin’s public lands and waters while in pursuit of waterfowl, deer, or whatever else might be in season at the time!
